Wilderness has and continues to have very different meanings for various groups of people. The "dilemma" occurs because some special interest groups want to "tame" and use wilderness resources while others demand a "hands-off" preservation policy. To cope with these two extremes, government agencies have enacted a series of regulations and laws. Private citizens have banded together to work for suitable wilderness policies. This book examines all aspects of the complex wilderness question including legislation, water rights and mineral exploration.
