Finding previous attempts to be incomplete, John Williams (1797–1874) sought to catalogue and translate the comet observations recorded by Chinese astronomers over two millennia. This 1871 publication also includes chronological tables and a Chinese celestial atlas, enabling comparison between the Chinese and Western systems for dates and stars.
