This Element traces the rapid economic development experienced by Southeast Asia at the cost of environmental degradation, rising greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing vulnerability to climate change. While sustainable development recognizes the importance of nature, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) fall short of this ideal.
