Omschrijving
The revised and updated second edition of Water and Sanitation Related Diseases and the Changing Environment offers an interdisciplinary guide to the conditions responsible for water and sanitation related diseases. The chapters will be organized consistent with the organization of the First Edition except as they reflect additions that are better kept together, e.g. climate change and public health will immediately follow background chapters on water, sanitation and hygiene. This will be followed by an update on Changing Geographic Distribution of Disease Vectors. Also, although referred to in many incidences throughout the First Edition, hygiene will receive a more substantial attention in the Second Edition.PREFACE CONTRIBUTORS INTRODUCTION
The Introduction will discuss and emphasize of the significance of the close relationships among water quality, sanitation, hygiene, human activity, climate change and other environmental factors, and diseases. It will provide a brief discussion of the health problems resulting from lack of adequate access to clean water, exposure to unsafe water, lack of and inadequate sanitation and hygiene, a summary of some of the microbes prevalent in these situations, and an overview of resulting exposure to disease, morbidity and mortality.
The Introduction will lay the foundation for understanding how water and sanitation-related diseases are further aggravated by nutritional inadequacies and infections, and problems that often exist in the same person.
