The author was bothered by the seeming contradiction between received ancient history and biblical history. Christianity after all is a historical religion. He came across evidence that well-intended historians made unwarranted assumptions. Yes, the events happened, and the rulers were real. But when and who? History, it turns out, is a tangled web of dates and dynasties. Is this reconstruction perfect? No. But it may just point in the right direction.
