The stories are told with humour as the illiterate, bold, clever, yet flawed matriarch of the family, Popo, works tirelessly to ensure that her children will have an education and an easier life than she had. The author captures the acceptance and respect the peoples of this diverse community have for each other and each other's cultures. The first-time author has been living in Canada for the past 50 years.
