Many times, as a patient, I have observed phlebotomy techniques, and I would ask the phlebotomist, "What is the reason for drawing the tubes in that order?" I would get either no reply or "I'm not sure." Now don't get me wrong. I have met many technicians who have great skills, but some cannot explain the most important question-why? If you were asked to eat fish once a week, and you ask why, and the only answer you get is because it's good for you, well, I'm sorry but where is the why?
