Friday 20th March 1556: Thomas Cranmer is alone in his cell in the Bocardo Prison, Oxford. Tomorrow, on the 21st of March 1556, he will pay the ultimate sacrifice. He will be the first Archbishop of Canterbury to be burned at the stake.
