Abai is widely considered Kazakhstan’s greatest cultural icon and pre-eminent poet. The Book of Songs, beautifully rendered by Scottish poet John Burnside, includes three musical compositions and twenty-three songs with scores and lyrics available in English for the first time. The year 2020 marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of Abai.
