Author Mindy Poist is a special educator and board-certified behavior analyst. She is also Jeffery's mom. Jeff was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism in 2001. Now, Poist has written a light and informative book to help children without autism understand this disorder, which affects more than 1 in 59 of their peers, classmates, friends.
Jeff's Journey is a glimpse into the life of a young boy, now young man, with autism. Poist's book begins when her son was seven, starting to learn how to balance skills and challenges in a positive way. Like most kids that age, he just wanted to be like all his friends. Now, Jeff is twenty-one and attends college while working part-time at a restaurant. Along his journey, teachers, tutors, therapists, and family members helped him make huge strides beyond autism-associated obstacles.
