This work reads Luke 24 through the lens of the ancient literary tradition of recognition in order to show how recognition provides form and function to the resurrection appearances of Jesus. After charting the development of recognition in ancient literature, Thompson offers a close reading of Luke 24 to show the ways that recognition impacts the interpretation of its literary and theological features. He concludes by exploring how recognition shapes the role of Luke 24 as the climax of the wider narrative
