The present Dictionary is the first dictionary of English words imitative by origin. These include words perceived as imitative in Present-day English (bow-wow, peep) as well as words derived from imitative roots (cliché, cicada). The Dictionary reveals patterns in the diachronic development, origin, and etymology of more than 1320 words.
