Volcano Deformation Modeling Using Radar Interferometry
A Mechanical Model of the Large-deformation 2005 Sierra Negra Volcanic Eruption Derived from InSAR Measurements
Omschrijving
This book is Sang-Ho Yun's Ph.D. work at Stanford
University. It contains radar image processing
parts and geophysical modeling parts. The data
processing parts introduce an optimal algorithm to
recover missing regions of digital elevation model
(DEM) and an algorithm to form an interferometric
radar image of large ground deformation. The
geophysical modeling parts describe a new method to
estimate the detailed shape and the pressure of
underground cracks filled with liquid such
as low viscous magma. The new techniques in both
parts are applied to volcano deformation modeling of
the eruption event at Sierra Negra volcano in
Galapagos Islands in October 2005. The eruption
event was preceded by an earthquake of magnitude 5.4
and caused one of the most complex deformation
pattern for radar imaging and geophysical modeling.
This book shows a good example of volcano
deformation modeling using radar images in a
mechanically consistent way.
