In the tension field between objectivity and imagination, the contributions to these interdisciplinary volume explore the reciprocal influence of scientific and artistic strategies from the perspective of epistemological and aesthetic correlations. The current discourse on art and nature focuses on natural history, encompassing the understanding of nature as a process, scholarly methodology and scientific (pictorial) knowledge. The case studies presented here discuss significant impulses in this regard, their adaptation and critical illumination in the artistic practice and art historical theory of the 20th and 21st century.
