WEIRD HISTORY OF A LONELY SHORT STORY

The book in which People are depicted as Books

Omschrijving

By accident, Short Story, the main character, stumbles across a mean Green Essay with a torn Cover, whose identity is a complete mystery—and who orders a gang of four Crime Novels to rob, in the darkest nightly hours, defenseless and often homeless Proofs living in Bookshop City, of their personal content. Step by step, Short Story finds out that a Top Ten clan is involved. He is, however, bothered by such a deep contempt for fellow citizens living on the lower Eastside of Bookshop City, that he can’t fling himself into adventures on behalf of the good cause to save them! But a secretly-living, 70-kilo overweight Oldest Bible Book puts him on the right track. Still mostly out of his own interest—to become an important figure—he starts investigating, just like his mother did, who was a Detective. During his journey to catch red-handed the organizer of the Content theft and Personal Accidents mischief, Short Story meets the most colorful characters, like his all-knowing friend Alex the Lexicon, the greedy Pub Guide, the harsh and bitter Interview, and the hysterical TV Bode with his indecent dachshund. On top of that, Short Story loses his heart and falls in love with a charming travel brochure, Glossy, which distracts him from his heroic whereabouts. She rejects him and leaves him hopeless, troubled, and wondering: how can he ever save even a single exploited Proof, let alone become a meaningful book? This novel, Part 1, is both an adventurous epic and a profound metaphor for literature, identity, and the battle between content and commerce. A must-read for kids, postmodern bookworms, and anybody who loves a well-told yarn!
