Casper Faasen's roots as a painter are evident in his photographic work. Besides painterly subjects and compositions, Faassen uses several transparent layers which not only give the spectator a sense of distance but also stimulate memory and association. He applies gold oil paint as a final layer of craquelure, referencing the beauty of time and decay. His works are dimmed and subdued but at the same time rich in materials and detail.
