This is my night book.
In this book, I – Yoko, ten years old – have written down everything that’s important. And secret. There’s a lot of that. For example, how my best friend Anna and I take revenge on Karppinen, how we still play with dolls even though we might be a bit too old for it, and how we spy on strange adults – like that bearded guy with the flowery canvas bag.
I’ve also written about things I’m afraid of. About how Rikke teases me because I have cold hands. About Daniel. About how I’ve been in love many times. Or at least thought I was.
My name is Yoko, after the artist Yoko Ono – Mom liked her a lot. Mom is an artist, Dad is a psychologist, and I have a little brother named Salvador and a little sister named Frida. A lot is going on. Sometimes way too much.
But one thing is important: this book is mine.
So if you’re reading right now – stop.
And put it back where you found it.
