Omschrijving
Aureool, the pseudonym of Lianne Quak, is an English teacher, translator, and editor. She is also a creative writer and a former participant in a writing group. Her second novel, Blind Desire, explores the theme of losing face. In the story, Destin’s father ignores his blind-born son out of fear of losing his power. As a victim, one can detach oneself from this, leading to new insights and personal growth.
In this novel, Imani Berkemeijer (22) embarks on an epic journey through Kenya to joyfully reunite with Destin, her childhood friend. After being dismissed as an English teacher, she seizes the opportunity to reconnect. Destin, cast out by the Samburu tribe, grew up with Imani in Maralal, where her father had worked. At 14, Imani returns to the Netherlands, soon realising her feelings for Destin. This leads to a brief renewed contact and an engagement.
On her way to Maralal, Imani learns from Lewis, Destin's brother, that he now lives in Mombasa. Imani tries to persuade Lewis to help reunite them but is startled by Lewis's deep-seated hatred for Destin, fueled by their father. As an advocate for Sherp, a disability integration unit, Imani confronts their father. But Samburu tradition is hard to break. Disillusionment leads her to Jim, the driver, who is interested in her. Yet Imani continues to do all she can to win back her childhood friend.
