Our planet is overheating. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's May 2023 report predicts that global warming is likely to result in a 1.5°C increase in the world's average surface temperature by early 2030, and that maintaining this already excessive level would mean achieving net-zero global greenhouse gas emissions. In other words, the climate emergency is real: if we don't find a way to radically change course, our planet will soon become uninhabitable.
